Building Confidence Through Language: Inside PASS’s English for Life Program

Learning a new language is about more than words, it’s about confidence, connection, and belonging.

On December 16, PASS officially launched a new cohort of its English for Life program, welcoming newcomers into a supportive learning environment focused on practical English for everyday life in Canada.

A Program Designed for Real Life

English for Life is a free, 3-month program created to help newcomers build the language skills they need for daily interactions; from navigating services and workplaces to communicating with neighbors and community members. Classes run Monday to Friday in Edmonton and emphasize participation, practice, and confidence-building.

Learning in a Supportive Environment

Our classes are designed to be welcoming and inclusive. Participants learn in small groups, receive guided support, and practice English in ways that reflect real-life situations. The first sessions, which began on December 16, were filled with energy, engagement, and meaningful conversations.

Recognizing Effort and Progress

At the end of the program, participants receive a Certificate of Completion in recognition of their dedication and progress. While the certificate is non-academic, it represents an important personal achievement and a step forward in each learner’s settlement journey.

Part of PASS’s Commitment to Newcomers

English for Life is one of PASS’s core initiatives aimed at removing barriers and creating accessible learning opportunities for newcomers. By strengthening communication skills, we help individuals feel more confident, connected, and empowered within the community.
